Mariss Stevens

At the turn of the century Mariss Stevens stumbled on the delights of quilt making and so began her love affair with fabric and thread. She has no formal art training but learnt to sew, knit and crochet as a girl, and likes to keep her hands busy. Since discovering the joys of textile work she has honed her stitching skills, first by making bed quilts and then art quilts. She has produced about 100 textile works, from small to large, sombre to bright, and much in between. Houses and then trees have caught her imagination as subject matter. She has exhibited locally and overseas and has held three solo exhibitions in her hometown.
