Michele Silk is a practicing artist who resides in Durban.
She was born in Cape Town but grew up in Zimbabwe where she completed a degree in fine art with Unisa.
She immigrated to South Africa mid 1996 and settled in Durban. In 2003 she completed a post-graduate diploma in painting at UKZN Pietermaritzburg followed by a Master's degree, completed in January 2007. Since then she has
exhibited in both group and solo shows in Durban and Cape Town including the Brett Kebble awards in Cape Town in 2003 and the Start Nivea Awards in Natal in 2009.
Michele Silk is a figurative artist who has predominantly used the expressive quality of oil paint using colour, line and texture to interpret her subject however her choice of media has diversified and includes digital drawing,printing, collage, sculpture, installation and photography.
Drawing inspiration from life-experiences, her own and others, alternative interpretations of the human condition are evident in her work: these encompass many aspects of life, physical, spiritual and mental, incorporating economic status, age, types of intolerances, frailty and mortality.
