Spirit’s response reflects Mongezi’s everyday life. It is a direct response to his life's experiences. It is a record of his thoughts, feelings and ideas about life's situations; the people he has come across and his environment.
His imagery feeds on musical influences especially improvised music; particularly, that found in jazz. He also uses his own musical improvisations to create visual compositions, making his artwork more personnel. He explores the relationship between music and visual arts by listening to how music tells stories. He sees his work as visual sounds and music.
He is interested in the technical and visual simplicity of the way his work deals with space.
