Morgan Mahape was born in 1983 in Umlazi, Durban, South Africa. He is a self-taught artist and has been featured in local and national media.
In 2011 he exhibited at Gallery 405, Durban, as part of the COP17 international conference. In 2012 he created the first ever artistic representation of the uShaka Marine World logo. The following year he exhibited at the Absa L'Atelier Art Competition. In 2014 he was one of the two fine art finalists from the KwaZulu-Natal region who reached the finals of the national PPC Cement Young Concrete Sculptor Awards. In the same year, his impromptu sculptures graced the front pages of The City Press and The Mercury Newspapers.
Mahape’s artwork made from 7000 condoms was displayed at the 2014 Umlazi Business Fair and Expo and The Department of Arts and Culture approached Mahape to showcase his work at the Pietermaritzburg Art in the Park.
