Richard Hart

Although Richard Hart is a relative newcomer to the art world, he has enjoyed a long and distinguished career as a graphic designer and illustrator. His design studio disturbance, has won over 60 awards at home and internationally and its work has been widely published on a global level. In 2007 the studio was the subject of the monograph, “These are a few of our favourite things”.
The following year disturbance became the first South African design firm to be featured on the cover of an international design journal (I.D. Magazine, Sept ‘08). Hart has regularly been invited to speak about his work, most notably at Design Indaba where he is one of the few speakers to be invited to speak more than once. He has also judged numerous local and international design awards.
Most recently Hart was commissioned by Design Indaba to curate, edit and design a survey of South African design. The resulting publication, “Where it’s at” is a 130 page celebration of creativity in South Africa and is described on the Design Indaba website as, “...a phenomenal, totally innovative publication. It draws on the fabric of South African design – describing it, engaging with it, illustrating it and interrogating it.”
