Sarojani Naidoo

I began quilting about 20 years ago.I attended various classes where I discovered appliqué and the freedom it gave me to create my own designs.

My interest in art quilting began then.In 2010 I began experimenting and creating little picture quilts and eventually using glue, pins, tulle and organza to hold my pieces down.I began attending many fibre art workshops and online classes with international and local teachers to learn art principles.

During this process I learnt free motion stitching and enjoyed the fact that I could draw with my needle.

In 2015 I joined Fibreworks.In 2016 I exhibited with the group at:

The GIF Gallery in Port Elizabeth

The Fynarts Festival

Mogalakwena Gallery

Other Exhibitions:

Exhibited at Quilt National Festivals in S Africa

Travelling exhibition in the United States

Taiwan International Quilt Exhibition in 2016

My quilt featured in the Quilt catalogue of the above exhibition

I draw my inspiration from nature. I like the concept of “wabi sabi” which is seeing beauty in decay and some of my pieces reflect this.My recent quilts are leaning towards an abstract interpretation which I am enjoying.
