TILLY DE HARDE
With over 20 years of experience in traditional techniques such as patchwork and embroidery, Tilly’s creative practice is driven by an interest in materials and techniques. The textile art that Tilly makes today, have grown from a foundation of quilting and the knowledge that almost any fibre can be utilized to achieve the results that she wants.
In order to find different ways of creating texture from fibres, Tilly does a lot of research, experiments and teaches the results to quilters who are keen to learn different ways of incorporating textures into their art works and quilts.
Tilly is a member of SAQG, Golden Rand Guild, Quadrille Quilters, Part Time Quilters and Fibreworks. She is also an accredited Golden Rand Guild and SAQG teacher. She teaches on a regular basis from home and on invitation to various quilting guilds and groups.
Some of her quilting achievements include Best Handwork and Viewer’s Choice 2000 (Jhb), Best on Show and Viewer’s Choice 2008 (Jhb), Best Freestyle on Show, Best Machine Workmanship and Viewer’s Choice 2013 (Bloemfontein), a First in the Challenge Category in 2015 (KwaZulu Natal) and a Second in the Abstract Art Large category in 2017 (PE). Her work, Destructive Beauty, was published in Linda Seward’s book The Ultimate Guide to Art Quilting: Surface Design, Piecing, Applique, Quilting, Embellishing.
