The theme for the 2017 Members' exhibition is CHARACTER (S)
- the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual
- the distinctive nature of something
- a person is seen in terms of a particular aspect of a character
The KZNSA Members’ Exhibition exhibition has kicked off the gallery's annual calendar for over forty years and is a testament to the energy and talent that our members bring to the organisation.
Members of the KwaZulu-Natal Society of Arts are invited to exhibit their work for free in the gallery every January. Each member can submit one piece and all submissions are eligible for the Joan Emanuel Family Trophy and a share of the R20 000 prize money.
Four prizes were awarded: first, second and third places as selected by a panel of independent judges, plus the KZNSA Special Commendation awarded by the KZNSA Exhibition Sub-Committee. The 2017 judges are Ndabo Langa, Greg Jacobson and Raksha Gobardan.
The theme this year is CHARACTER and members from ages sixteen to ninety five responded with 109 entries in multiple mediums, including painting, ceramics, metal work, collage, drawing, photography and woodcarving. We’re delighted to have enlisted many new members with exciting new work.
The trophy and prizes are generously donated by the Emanuel Family, in honour of the late artist, Joan Emanuel. Prize winners are:
