LAB Talk | The Architecture of the Constitutional Court| Friday 18 October | 16h30

Date

18/10/2024

The Constitutional Court of South Africa was designed by Durban-trained architects Andrew Makin, Janina Masojada and Paul Wygers. The young team won an international competition in 1997, from 185 formal, anonymous entries received from 30 countries, for the design of the new building with their concept of “justice under a tree.” Masojada, one of the principal architects of South Africa’s Constitutional Court, will discuss what informed the design of the building and how art was sensitively incorporated.

In this interactive session, the audience will get a chance to ask Masojada questions about the project and the processes employed. After the LABTalk, there’s an evening of live music courtesy of multi-instrumentalist and singer, Sbu Shabalala.  The Arts Café will close at 21h00; the kitchen will be taking orders until 20h00 and you can make a beverage order until 20h30.
