We are constantly bombarded with on-line images and information. The amount of time we spend glancing at adverts, staring at screens, or interacting on social media has become
skewed in terms of which images are grabbing or holding our attention and what we are perpetuating by looking away or averting our gaze.

Moved by the docu-movie “The Sound of Freedom” on child trafficking as well as the increasing reports of missing women and children in SA, this exhibition aims to hold the gaze of public eyes on pressing issues whilst allowing often silenced feelings to find healing outlets.

Incorporating discarded objects as inspiration and art material, the artworks explore a visual language to communicate the theme of lost and found. The artists explore various mediums to spread the nuanced narrative, as well as for creative therapeutic expression as they grapple with what is missing in society

Reflective surfaces encourage the public to take a closer look at our role in the trends of increased supply and demand in a world where our mass-consumer choices are feeding global environmental and humanitarian crises. Moving between traditional and contemporary disciplines and mediums aims to draw a correlation between past and neo-slavery.

This exhibition aims to start conversations by exploring the lenses we wear as free individuals in a now freed country.

This project is supported by the National Arts Council South Africa, in partnership with The Hong Kong Arts Development Council and the Department of Sports, Arts & Culture.
