The KZNSA Gallery is excited to invite you to join us for the opening of two exhibitions, Marking Time by Chris de Beer and UMbulumakheqe II: Sound, Story, Image by Ande Magoso and Mbali Malimela.
Park Gallery | Marking Time
In Marking Time, Durban artist Chris de Beer brings together eco-prints, artist books and creative jewellery made from leaves and flowers gathered during his daily walks.
Through collecting, printing and transforming these botanical fragments, De Beer reflects on memory, introspection and the passage of time. The exhibition invites us to slow down, look more attentively at our surroundings and reconsider the significance of things we might otherwise overlook.
Main & Mezzanine Galleries | UMbulumakheqe II: Sound, Story, Image
Continuing a story that began with the first UMbulumakheqe exhibition, presented at The Chairman in 2025, visual artist Ande Magoso and poet and storyteller Mbali Malimela bring together painting, sound and oral storytelling in this second chapter.
Rooted in izinganekwane, stories traditionally shared by elders after nightfall, the exhibition follows UMbulumakheqe, a man navigating different worlds, lineages and forms of belonging. Through image and voice, the artists explore inherited knowledge, ancestral presence, love, longing and transformation, inviting us to consider what happens when stories carried across generations enter the gallery and take on new forms.
Join us as we celebrate these artists and the distinct ways their practices engage with storytelling, memory and the world around us.
