Zoe the seed is a Durban – based jazz vocalist, music teacher and performer. The UKZN graduate in Jazz and Popular Music grew up listening to music giants like Sibongile Khumalo, Busi Mhlongo, Lala Hathaway, Rachael Ferrell, Sarah Vaughan and Natalie Cole, and she drew inspiration from those artists before becoming a seasoned musician herself. She is not just a brilliant performer; her journey involves constant interaction with young aspiring artists where she can impart her musical seeds through music workshops. She has performed alongside Nduduzo Makhathini, Ernest Dawkins, Ernie Smith, Salim Washington, Themba Mkhize and Afrika Mkhize.
Another headliner to be excited about is rapper Raheem Kemet. He wears a couple of hats on stage; he is a lyricist, a poet, a beatboxer, and a songwriter of note. With over 16 years of experience, one can say he is now a fully – fletched music entrepreneur, and his name is associated with big brands. He is innovative and trendy, and his stage performances are usually out of the box.
“Yeah, I don’t fit into any box per se. I just want to create good music that I’m proud of. More importantly, I want to tell and portray my story in my very own unique way. Skies the limit, yet I have to kiss the depths of mother earth first with these words,” says Kemet.
Lungelo Manzi, an eclectic singer, songwriter and rapper, will join the line-up. His professional solo career took off in 2016 via Cultured Chaos, a production and artist development stable in Durban, leading to the successful release of his Black Dog EP. The multi-talented artist uses his music to tackle social issues with topics such as love, self-discovery, mental health and life growing up in the inner-city streets of Durban. He has two outstanding awards under his name ‘Best Musician’ at the Durban Creative Awards in 2020 and is listed as one of 2019’s Best Indie Newcomers by the acclaimed entertainment website, Texx and the City.
The Arts Cafe will serve a special dinner menu – a reminder to bring your alcohol until further notice. Tickets are R80, available at Webtickets or at the door.
