UFAFA VALLEY PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

During 2016 and 2017, the KZNSA shop worked with crafters from Woza Moya in the Ufafa Valley near Ixopo to develop new designs and products. The project culminated in the launch of a new range of embroidered art, bags and soft furnishings, and a textile print for the interior and fashion industry. Income generated from the sales of these ranges goes back to the Ufafa Valley community

THE SOCIAL ART PROGRAMME

The KZNSA Social Art Programme explores social issues relevant to our time and place. Each exhibition has an education programme that consists of public walkabouts, skills training workshops, artist presentations to the public, and blog posts aimed at high school learners.

CREATIVE COLLAB

A 2015 project inspired by the Design Indaba Expo, Creative Collab was a design expo showcasing the best of KZN design. By bringing together creators, the Creative Collab sought to grow the creative economy within the province & expose the wider public to Durban’s creative talent. The exhibition showcased work from leading KZN makers in Ceramics, Furniture, Fashion, Jewellery, Photography, Product, Video and Visual Art. Exhibitors included established names in the design industry like Xavier Clarisse, Zulu Beadwork Project, Koop Design, Astrid Dahl, Garth Walker, Hlengiwe and Sam Dube and Sbonelo Tau Luthuli as well as up and coming creative talents like Sanele Cele, ELPPAG, Deane Alcock and Nindya & Nikhil Tricam amongst others.

THE YOUNG ARTISTS' PROJECT

KZNSA seeks to revive The Young Artists’ Project (YAP), an initiative undertaken by the KZNSA Gallery 2003–2006 to nurture and support new work. KZN is known for producing extremely talented creatives, many of whom are forced to relocate, or take up other means of income, as they cannot establish themselves in the art industry. The Young Artists’ Project identifies exciting young KZN artists whose careers will be solidified by their first solo exhibition, or participation in a group show, in an established gallery.
