VANSA COPYRIGHT WORKSHOPS FOR THE VISUAL ARTS AT THE KZNSA GALLERY
Facilitated by the Visual Arts Network of South Africa and hosted by the KZNSA Gallery
Date: Friday 21st September
Time: 10:00am – 1:00pm, to be followed by informal networking and snacks
Address: 166 Bulwer Road, Glenwood, Durban
The workshop is provided at no cost.
The workshops will provide an accessible introduction to a complex area of law, drawing also on participant’s own experiences in this area, and are aimed particularly at visual artists. The workshop will also be useful for the heirs of the estates of deceased artists, as well as the users of artists work. The workshops will focus on:
• The basics of Copyright – how it works, and the situations in which it does and does not apply
• Options for the Licensing of Rights and Collective Rights Management
• Moral Rights and Artist Resale Rights
The workshops will be co-facilitated by VANSA staff and two legal professionals – Masilo Mawela of Luu Mawela Attorneys and Toby Orford of Toby Orford Art Law.
To confirm your attendance at the workshops, please email Euridice Kala at firstname.lastname@example.org, or phone 011 402 2085/6. More detailed information about the workshops will be forwarded once you have confirmed your attendance.
The overall project is made possible through support from the National Arts Council (NAC), the Dramatic, Artistic and Literary Rights Organisation (DALRO), and Africalia, with technical input on the publication from the Anton Mostert Chair for Intellectual Property at the University of Stellenbosch.
