KZNSA is excited to announce the theme for the 2024 Members' Award; a visual prose.

This theme draws inspiration from the vibrant cultural tapestry of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), a province steeped in the legacies of writers, poets, and artists. The exploration revolves around the intriguing dynamics of playing with words, prose, and language.
A homage to the literary contributions of figures like Mazisi Kunene, Mbongeni Ngema, Gcina Mhlope, Mafika Gwala, Kobus Moolman, and Lewis Nkosi, the theme delves into the rich storytelling landscape of KZN and South Africa. It is akin to an ode to the roots that define us as a province and the boundless imagination of artists.

a visual prose encourages a cross-pollination of disciplines and prompts the creation of imagery and art inspired by parables, prose, literature, and poetry. The theme seeks to create nuance, leaving space for sonic/audio/audio-visual and performance art, ensuring that the artistic expressions are not confined to the visual/traditional fine art realm.

Artists are encouraged to take any saying, proverb, cultural sentence, or parable and weave it into their artwork submission.
