What is contemporary photography? It is, quite simply the photography of today, of this time, this era or epoch? In the South African context the dynamics that contribute to the transformation of society are as diverse as its peoples. This course offers an exploration of these dynamics; intriguing; complex; perplexing and exhilarating.

Here we enter photography’s unique position in the arts, that of the possibility of translation, interpretation, reflection and exposure of the photographer’s subjective realities and immediate context.

This eight week course will introduce the possibility of photographic expression through a visual exploration of a chosen subject or theme. Conceptual approaches will be thoroughly explored, visual possibilities discussed, logistical concerns considered and regular critique sessions held to monitor progress.

Participants, with a passion for photography, will leave the course with a body of work that is contemporary, conceptual and that could be the basis for future self- motivated projects.

Cost: R4 000.00 per person
