Hands speak – listen to the stories of Makers

When a painter lifts the brush, a tailor threads the needle, or a traditional crafter weaves natural fibres into form, their hands speak a language of their own. It is the silent language of art, flowing through one’s hands, carrying memory, emotion, and wisdom.
“Sizwakala Ngezandla” (We are heard through our hands) is a celebration of the makers among us; the artists, artisans, and craftspeople who transform materials through care and imagination. In their gestures, we find the quiet magic of creation, one where love, patience, and rhythm turn the simple into the sublime.

In this year’s Annual Members Group Show, the gallery is a meeting place for stories told through the hands, stories of patience, skill, love, community and heritage. The works gathered here remind us that creativity is not only seen but felt, shaped by the intimate dialogue between the maker and their material.

Through these works, the hands of many speak. They speak of tradition, of renewal, and of the timeless human impulse to create.
