Double Up!
During the Covid-19 lockdowns, the concept of the “bubble” became known. The bubble is formed by a small group of people who can share their lockdown experience safely and allows them to have some personal interaction. Ideally, a connection will be made between each bubble.
We have taken this concept and selected 5 artists who have not had the opportunity to show work during the lockdown. These 5 artists have each been invited to select one other artist who has been similarly affected. The exhibition is titled Double up! and is intended to give opportunities to artists who have not been in the mainstream of exhibiting in Durban. The initial brief gave each of the selected artists free rein to select who they wished, which also gave them a curatorial role.
The process is intended to draw attention to the fact that Covid-19 has taught us how important mutual support and collaborations can be.
