Growing Up Across Borders is an international research project, financed by the European Research Council and carried out in five countries (France, UK, Greece, Canada and South Africa) to explore the lived experiences of young people aged 15-25 growing up in situations of forced displacement and mobility across borders.

They aim to explore their transitions to adulthood and the ways in which these young people navigate the complex boundaries both external and internal with which they are faced. In South Africa they are working in partnership with Refugee Social Services, Durban and a group of young refugees (aged 16-25), putting into place participatory research where young people use creative mediums such as photography to narrate their own lived experiences. This exhibition brings together a series of photos taken by these young people on the theme of belonging/difference. They have brought their own imagination to interpret what these themes mean to them, and how they can represent them through photographic images.

At the same time, the exhibition broadcasted extracts of audio podcasts recorded by young refugees in the project on the theme of discrimination and rights, and documentation.
