The KZNSA is excited to host an exhibition celebrating 10 years of existence of Amasosha Collective. The exhibition titled ‘Izihlahla Ziyokhuluma’ (the trees shall speak) is one that will evoke memory and spirits. It brings to focus truths that reside beyond what the eye can see. Trees are living witnesses, and their roots sink deep into the earth carrying stories of the past. Their branches which reach skyward carry us into the future. They embody continuity and resilience. Trees are the subtle connections that bind people with their land and history.
This body of work presented by Amasosha Collective reflects the growth and patience that they have gone through. The exhibition amplifies the often silenced stories amongst the broader African population. These are stories that continue to shape and reshape their socio-economic landscape. As reflected by the chosen materials, these works speak a language that connects us with history. They guide us to discover ways of surviving and thriving in the contemporary world.
‘Izihlahla ziyokhuluma’ reminds us that silence is never empty. It carries language, a quiet wisdom waiting to be received.
