‘Not For Sale’ has always been a command, a straightforward, non-negotiable restriction.

There is no negotiation on such a command, no pleading that can suffice. What happens then when we bring that term into the gallery space? We imagine that it shifts the viewer’s gaze, inviting them to see the work beyond what its value might imply perhaps. Sometimes, however, it instigates curiosity: questions about worth, about how much it costs, questions that might never arise as prominently without this command and provocation.

There is an irony we are debating with, in this show title being curated by a company called The Dealr. A business where at the foundation of it, operates on sale relations. This irony tends to flip the phrase on its own head, to indicate that it is for sale, however, it demands to be experienced first for its value before its sale.

So we tell you, its not for sale, so perhaps you can admire it on the wall a little while longer, then remind you that it is actually for sale, a suggestion that you can take home that sentiment.
