Photogarage is an innovative experiential private photography school established and run by photographer Angela Buckland.

The objective of Photogarage is for people to reignite and explore their creativity through the photographic medium. The exhibition is the result of participants having completed 3 progression courses culminating in a final group exhibition. This is the 3^rd group exhibition that Photogarage has undertaken. This years’ group show has seven participants, each with diverse expertise and interests.

Each participant has worked steadily and intensively for four months on a personal project.  Each project differs in its theme and photographic application.

Nindya Bucktowar has been imaging bamboo as a personal metaphor and another project photographing objects and rhythms found in the Durban CBD.

Leigh Corbett has documented insightful and tender images of primary caregivers and their children on life support.

Louise Johnson examines the relationship between domestic workers and the children they care for and turns the camera on herself with the woman who cared for her as a child.

Sally McCabe has set up a home studio with endless hours examining the architecture of indigenous seed pods found in and around the Albert Falls Dam.

Loraine Laas presents fascinating landscapes of Shaka’s Rock and interrogates the legends behind this historical site.

Nikhil Tricam provides a tapestry of street photography around Durban’s iconic Juma Masjid Mosque in Grey Street.

Olga von Eck explores the concept and the abstraction of ‘time’.

Undertaking a personal project develops meaning in the participants’ creative lives, and offers direction for the individual application and practice of acquired skills. Focusing on creating a body of work has the capacity to energise and add purpose giving new unanticipated opportunities. There is great value and importance for each individual in the journey of developing their project for a public group exhibition, and this space offers an opportunity to work closely with others in a safe supported environment.
