Angela Shaw
Executive Director
Shaw’s early career was as a photographer for the South China Morning Post in Hong Kong, among other publications in The United States, Hong Kong and South Africa. Solo exhibitions were mounted in Yangon, Myanmar (1998) and in Durban (2001, 2006). From 2000-2007 she worked as a researcher for the international trend institute (iti) in Durban, South Africa reporting on behavioral and socio-economic trends. In the following years, Shaw worked across multiple disciplines including contemporary visual art, branding and communication, architecture, interiors, furniture, craft and artisanal food.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and English from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, an Honours in Curatorship from the University of Cape Town and a Masters in Curatorial Public and Visual Practice from the University of Witwatersrand. Since 2014 Shaw has been the Executive Director of the KwaZulu-Natal Society of Arts, a non-profit visual arts organisation, where she is the head of operations and strategic direction.
