Dr. Greer Valley

Dr. Valley is a lecturer in the Curatorial, Public and Visual Cultures department at the University of
the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. Greer is chairperson of the Africa South Arts Initiative (ASAI). In 2018 she was selected as a curatorial Fellow at the Institute for Creative Arts and in 2019 as a Getty Foundation MAHASSA Fellow (Modern Art Histories in and Across Africa, South and Southeast Asia). In 2019 she was part of the Dak’art Biennale selection committee and was selected as guest curator for the 2022 Dak’art Biennale where she presented the exhibition, Unsettled. In 2024, she is a recipient of the Chancellor’s Female Academic Leadership Fellowship (FALF) at the University of the Witwatersrand. Her research and practice interests include curatorial interventions in institutions and exhibition spaces focused on African colonial histories. Greer is experienced in the visual art, architecture and design industries in South Africa, the Netherlands and the UK. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, an Honours degree in Visual Studies, a Master’s degree in Visual Art and a PhD in Art Historical Studies.
