Ismail Mahomed

Ismail Mahomed is the Director for the Centre for Creative Arts at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He heads up the Centre’s festival viz Time of the Write, Poetry Africa, Durban International Film Festival, JOMBA! Contemporary Dance Festival and the Artfluence Human Rights Festival. His previous occupation include being CEO of the Market Theatre Foundation, Artistic Director of the National Arts Festival and Senior Cultural Specialist at the US Embassy. With more than 40 years in cultural leadership positions he is the recipient of three Lifetime Achievement Awards awarded to him respectively by KykNet, the Naledi Theatre Awards and WOMAD. Mahomed was one of three persons from the African continent to have participated in the Kings College (London) programme on Cultural Leadership for the 21st Century.
